To the One Who’s Praying and Planning: You’re Not Crazy

For the longest time, I thought I had to choose.

Either surrender everything and wait on God to “do it all,”

or grab the reins and hustle my way through with strategy.

But then God handed me an assignment

that shattered that false choice completely.

It was a few years ago,

an open door to lead a project in an industry I knew nothing about.

No experience.

No network.

Not even the vocabulary.

And yet, there it was: an opportunity so clear it felt like heaven’s handwriting.

My first instinct?

“Lord, you’ve got the wrong person. I’m not qualified.”

But instead of bolting, I brought it to the only place that made sense,

the secret place of prayer.

And that’s where the miracle started.

In prayer, God began breaking the project down

like a teacher sketching diagrams on a chalkboard.

I would bring a problem,

and wisdom would meet me there,

a scripture lighting up,

a sudden insight,

a practical step that felt too sharp to be mine.

And then something even more surprising happened:

Prayer didn’t just give me peace;

It propelled me into planning.

Every time I rose from prayer,

I felt a divine download, like a nudge:

Sit down. Write. Organize. Research.

What I thought would be a mystical download turned into a divine partnership.

Prayer birthed the plan.

The strategy didn’t come from me;

it came with Him.

By the time the project wrapped up,

what once seemed impossible had become a testimony.

Not because I was the expert,

but because the Expert was in the room the whole time.

And this is what I learned:

When prayer holds the pen they become plans. A blueprint in the secret place.

The visions God plants in your heart aren’t random dreams.

They are assignments,

and assignments require preparation.

Prayer isn’t where you escape the work;

it’s where you receive the blueprint for it.

Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” – Proverbs 16:3

The Holy Spirit knows all things,

yes, all things.

Not just the “churchy” parts of life,

but your finances,

your career,

your business strategy,

your parenting,

even that tricky conversation you’re dreading.

He can teach you how to balance your budget

as easily as He can teach you how to love your neighbor.

Prayer is the well where wisdom flows.

Planning is the jar where you catch that wisdom and steward it.

So this week, here’s a challenge:

Think of one area where you feel unqualified, overwhelmed, or unsure.

Bring it into prayer.

Ask: “Holy Spirit, what’s the strategy you have for me here?”

Write down whatever comes, don’t overthink it.

Sometimes it will be a single word.

Sometimes a full roadmap.

But trust this:

Prayer can unlock clarity.

And strategy?

That’s just obedience in motion.

Now it’s your turn:

Have you ever watched God walk you through something

you had no prior experience in,

step by step, like a guide with a lantern?

Hit reply and share.

Your story might just be the light someone else needs this week.

Praying along with you,

With love,

Nkiruka.
